Tour highlights: Altai Tavan bogd National park, hiking to Potanine glacier, Malchin peak climbing, explore petroglyphs, visit nomadic eagle hunter’s family, hike to Baga Turgen waterfall, drive to Khoton and Khurgan lake, get acquaint Kazakh and Mongolian culture ect.
Day 1 -Flight to Olgii
Ulgii is the highest-altitude aimag (province) in Mongolia, lying mostly within the rugged Mongolian Altai mountain region. It is renowned for the centuries-old tradition of hunting with trained golden eagles — with an estimated 80% of the world’s eagle hunters living here. Upon arrival at the local airport, you will be greeted by our team, including your driver, English-speaking tour guide, and cook. From there, we will set off on a scenic 180 km journey from Olgii to the entrance of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Be prepared the road can be very bumpy, but the striking landscapes along the way make it an unforgettable ride. Overnight accommodation: tent. (L-D).
Day 2 –Hiking to Tavan Bogd massif
After breakfast, you will set out from the entrance of the national park, beginning your trek toward the base camp. Today, our caravan of camels and horses, led by experienced local guides, will join us on the journey. Your baggage and equipment will be carried by camels, allowing you to travel light and enjoy the scenery. Over the course of 16 km, the landscape will gradually open up to reveal the majestic Potanin Glacier one of the longest in Mongolia framed by the towering, snow-capped peaks of the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains. Day 3 To climb “Malchin” peak.
We'll awake to the fresh mountain air and stunning morning glow of the Altai Tavan Bogd NP. This day we will climb up to the Malchin peak 4050 meter high which is located on the Mongolia and Russian border. So come hydrated and with plenty of sunscreen. The climb is not technical, though snow, wind, and alpine storms can happen at any time of year. From basecamp to the summit and back takes roughly 5-7 hours depending on your speed. You’ll have the best view of the whole Altai Tavan Bogd national park and the longest Potanin glacier from the top of the Malchin peak. It is not for beginner hikers… Overnight accommodation: tent (B-L-D).
Day 4 –White river valley riding back
The White River (Tsagaan Gol) flows from the glaciers of the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains, winding its way through a dramatic valley framed by snow-capped peaks. Hiking along its banks offers a perfect mix of stunning scenery and cultural discovery. The turquoise-white, glacier-fed waters contrast sharply with the surrounding green meadows and rugged cliffs, creating a photographer’s dream. Along the route, you may encounter nomadic herders tending their yaks, horses, and camels, offering a glimpse into traditional life in this remote corner of Mongolia. The trail is relatively gentle, making it accessible for most hikers, while the fresh mountain air and the sound of rushing water create an unforgettable sense of peace and connection with nature. Day 5-6 Drive to Khoton and Khurgan lake.(at Sirgaly area)
Today, we continue our journey along rough, unpaved roads, heading toward the lake and forest area of the national park known as Sirgali. This beautiful spot marks the meeting point of the twin pristine lakes of Khoton and Khurgan. Surrounded by endless snow-capped mountains, larch forests, and crystal-clear waters, the landscape here is among the most breathtaking of the entire trip. The area offers excellent opportunities for fishing and birdwatching, as well as simply soaking in the serene beauty of Mongolia’s remote wilderness. Overnight accommodation: tent (B-L-D).
Day 7- Baga Turgen Waterfall
Baga Turgen Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder tucked away in the scenic Turgen Gorge. Here, a powerful stream plunges down steep, moss-covered rocks, sending a curtain of white water into the air. Today’s hike covers approximately 8 km round trip, leading you through lush greenery, rugged cliffs, and the refreshing scent of alpine vegetation. As you approach, the roar of the falls grows louder, and a cool mist drifts through the air, offering a welcome refreshment after the trek. This picturesque spot is perfect for photography, quiet reflection, and simply immersing yourself in the pristine beauty of the Altai Mountains. Overnight accommodation: tent (B-L-D).
Day 8 Drive to “Sagsai” village, Visit eagle hunter’s family.
After a 100 km drive, you will arrive in the small village of Sagsai, beautifully situated on the banks of the Khovd River. Here, you will visit the home of a nomadic eagle hunter — one of the most memorable experiences of any tour we offer. Each day spent here provides countless opportunities to talk with eagle hunters, photograph their magnificent golden eagles, and learn about the nomadic way of life and its rich cultural heritage. You are welcome to ask the eagle hunter any questions; he will gladly share stories, demonstrate the skills of his trained eagle, and explain fascinating details about this centuries-old tradition. You will also enjoy tasting a variety of homemade dairy products and experiencing the warm hospitality of local Kazakh nomads. Overnight accommodation will be in a traditional Kazakh ger. (B-L-D)
Day 9 Drive back to Olgii
After lunch, we begin our drive back to Ölgii city. Once we’ve checked into our accommodation and had time to refresh with a shower, we’ll head into the downtown area to explore. A visit to the lively local bazaar offers the chance to experience everyday life, browse colorful stalls, and shop for unique Kazakh art and souvenirs. In the evening, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, enjoying traditional flavors and warm hospitality. Overnight accommodation will be in a cozy Kazakh yurt or a comfortable cabin, providing an authentic yet restful end to our journey .(B-L-D)
After breakfast you will be driven to the local airport with your guide for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar. B

Altitude
Mostly we are camping and trekking around 1500-2000m high from the sea level. Some trekking routes may go as high as around 3000m but this is not a daily occurrence. When you climb up to the Malchin peak, it is about 4050m high from the sea level.
Weather
Some weather recommendations: Summer months in Mongolia are from early-June to mid-September. Although the Mongolian summers are hot and dry with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night, the weather at Altai Tavan Bogd NP is very changeable, so be prepared for all weather conditions.Mountain weather is always unpredictable, we recommend you to bring warm sleeping bags that rated -15 celcius.
