We were well taken care from the moment we landed, we had no clue what to expect out of the trip however, everything was well planned out for us, we had a wonderful team that consist of a driver, cook and guide. All were experienced in their field. The whole 10 days in Mongolia was amazing with the assistance from Altai Nomads Travel!

Excellent Altai mixed trip to Western Mongolia

Excellent Altai mixed trip to Western Mongolia

We had visited Western Mongolia for 15 days with Altai Nomads Travel. The trip was excellent. When we planned the itinerary of the trip, Serik gave useful information and good recommendation to us. During the trip, the guide (Yerka), the driver (Yeska) and the cook (Piko) took good care of us. Yerka managed everything for us and handled unexpected circumstances due to weather change wisely. Yeska drove safely and skillfully. The jeep was in good condition. I did not have road sick problem even in rough road. Piko was a good cook. She worked hard all the time to prepare good food for us. We enjoyed the trip very much. We were not only enjoying the beautiful scenery of Mongolia. We also enjoyed traveling with these three super friendly guys (Yerka, Yeska and Piko).

Horseback riding with Altai-Nomads Travel was one of my best holidays ever.

I did the 10 day horseback riding tour and loved everything about it. Serik had organized everything very well and each lunch and campsite that we choose was just like from paradise. The nature is just stunning and each day varied in terms of landscape.

The people supporting the tour were all very kind, professional and knowledgeable about what they were doing. The horses were very well trained and despite the fact that I’m a beginner it was very easy to ride them. We also visited an eagle hunter family and stayed in a Kazakh yurt and it was a great and interesting experience to stay with locals. Another point I liked was that Serik and his team were very responsible and collected all our trash from each campsite and brought it all back to Ulgii. The only thing that I regretted was that I didn’t bring a warmer sleeping bag as it gets really cold during the night but again, Serik was very kind a lent me his. I had an unforgettable adventure and I can highly recommended Altai-Nomads Travel.

Outstanding Time In the Altai with Altai Nomads

Outstanding Time In the Altai with Altai Nomads

Our trip was facilitated through a friend with intimate knowledge of Mongolia through her in-country NGO activities and support. She worked with Altai Nomads and coordinated an itinerary and overall plan. Altai Nomads is a a full service outfitter specializing in custom itineraries for in and around the Altai region. From the moment of our greeting at the Olgii airport we sensed that this company was special and that this was going to be a very memorable trip. Our itinerary was comprehensive and included multi-night stays with eagle hunter families in the Sagsai Valley, overnight in ger camps, a memorable horseback ride up to the Potanin Glacier and finally one day attendance at a local very intimate Eagle festival competition at beautiful Lake Tolbo.Serik heads up Altai Nomands. It is a family operated business. Our driver was the brother of Serik, our cook was Serik’s mother.Rounding out our travel group was a young, engaging translator and our friend who choreographed all aspects of our trip with Serik.
It was apparent the Altai Nomads team had trusted and respected relationships with locals and businesses in the Altai. Team members were likable with easy-going personalities and continued to foster and grow those relationships with every interaction. Their partnerships with the Eagle Hunter families in particular benefit visitors in so many ways. Our visits to host families were received with excitement and great interest. Families were outgoing and welcomed us into their homes and always interested in us as foreign visitors.Spending several days hosted with eagle hunter families in advance of the Eagle Hunter festival gave us a level of context and recognition other foreign visitors to the event would not have. The Altai Nomads team went out of their way to ensure an experience of a lifetime. Their broader business relationships allow for great flexibility in the kinds of services and experiences they can offer visitors. I would definitely recommend Serik and his team for guided expeditionary trips throughout Mongolia

Culture meets the wild west

Culture meets the wild west

The primary goal of our Mongolian journey was “The Eagle Festival”. We had developed an interest and were already booked but this interest was piqued by the release of the film, The Eagle Huntress.Well, the experience exceeded expectations. Not only did Syerik from the Altai Nomads Travel, and his delightful family, make the Eagle Festival a great event, but he also took us for the five days before the Festival to the Altai Mountains. Again, superb. The assistance you get is fantastic and essential. You can’t really do an Altai trip by yourself. Access is intrepid to say the least. You need knowledge of roads, a driver who can master the feral Furgon (the local Russian equivalent of a Combi) and a series of local skills that only locals have. We saw a huge amount, ate well and felt safe and cared for.Back to Ulgii and the wonderful Eagle Festival. To be part of this event was up there with Antarctica, the Atacama Dessert and the Australian Kimberley. You felt quite unique. Again, Syerik and his crew kept us exceptionally comfortable with our own Yurt set up for a respite from the cold with endless food and drinks. This is a part of the world where you need local help. If you want to see “stuff” you need local insights. Syerik and his family were wonderful. Easy communication, lots of laughs, great food and drinks and an excellent knowledge of the area. The whole affair was tailored to suit our needs. The four of us (the tourists) could not recommend Syerik enough. Many thanks

The best horseback riding tour in Mongolia.

The best horseback riding tour in Mongolia.

I had a great time exploring the Altai mountains on horseback. The scenery was breathtaking. I’ve never seen a country that has such untouched beauty like Mongolia has. The views of these great mountains, green meadow, clear streams of water, animals grazing. It was all so unreal and magical. We stayed in kazakh yurt with nomadic eagle hunter’s family. It was really a unique experience. All our hosts were so kind, welcoming and generous. And we can’t thank to Serik, Eska and Fiko enough. We really appreciate their help throughout the tour. They made our 10 days trip that much special. As for anyone hesitating to take the horse ride tour, don’t be. I’ve never been on a horse before and it was really easy to handle. The guys and the horseman are helpful too. Absolutely recommend this company to other travelers – I want to go back and do a birding excursion at a different time of year in the future, plus to see the reindeer herders would be so neat! There’s much I’d love to do, and I’ll definitely be using this company.

Incredible horseback riding trip

We had an incredible horseback riding trip with Altai Nomads Travel. The horses were phenomenal – small but so strong and speedy, traversing the sometimes tricky ground like troopers. The wranglers are amazing to ride with and learn from. The whole team makes my trip so comfortable with hot dinners to go back to after the ride and always plenty of fun and chat around the campfire. We stayed in untouched nature, saw the most amazing stars at night, and had great food. I strongly recommend Altai nomads travel’s horseback riding tours in Mongolia!

I did the ten day trek through Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and was thrilled with the experience. Everything was fantastic— from the food, to the scenery, the driving, the camping gear and the crew with us. Our guide, Auka, was great and was able to answer all our questions and teach us some (basic!) Kazakh. Our cook Guljan whipped up some fantastic food which was always perfect after a long day hiking in some unseasonably cold weather (she was also able to cater to my dietary requirement of gluten free!) Our driver, Erjan, was hilarious and always had us laughing. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Serik was also able to push back my flights and arrange for me to go to the eagle festival with another group (this was a very last minute amendment!).
The experience was amazing and the level of professionalism was impressive. I would absolutely recommend this trek to anyone who loves nature and hiking and is an open-minded traveller ready to learn about Kazakh/Mongolian culture. This was the best adventure trekking tour in my life.
